The Interview

The interview was scheduled for nine in the morning. I woke up at six, showered, and put on the outfit I had picked out the night before. It was important to me to look my best. I arrived at the building a few minutes early and sat in my car, rehearsing my answers in my head. It was so nerve-wracking for me.

At nine on the dot, I walked into the building and was directed to a waiting room. There were a few other people in the room, all of whom were also interviewing for the same job. We all sat in silence, nervously flipping through magazines or checking our phones.

Finally, at nine-thirty, we were called into the interview room. The interviewer greeted me and we sat down. We talked for a few minutes about the job and my qualifications. Then came the questions. We went through a few standard questions, and then the interviewer asked me a question that I wasn’t expecting.

It is now time to draw some conclusions about the nature of the self. We have seen that there are a number of different ways to conceive of the self, and that these conceptions can be divided into two broad categories: the empirical and the transcendental. The empirical self is the self as it appears in experience, while the transcendental self is the self as it exists in itself, independent of experience. We have also seen that the transcendental self is not a thing or entity, but rather a Kantian concept or idea. 

One of the most important things to keep in mind about the transcendental self is that it is not a thing or entity that can be known or experienced. It is only knowable through its effects in experience. In other words, we can know that there is a transcendental self, but we cannot know what it is like. This is because the transcendental self is not a thing that exists in the world, but rather a structure or condition of the world.
